Ms. Keller was absolutely right.

Collaboration not competition is the key.

Today, let’s talk about how you can get more customers by collaborating instead of competing.

That’s right. Focus your energies on finding people in your network you can partner with and then, tap into each others’ audiences.

Collaboration is great because it is a fusing of energies, minds, ideas and efforts. Everything works better when you partner with people who understand your business and values and share a common worldview too.

How can you collaborate?

Ask. That’s right. It’s as simple as asking someone who you think will be a great fit for your brand and products.

For instance, we collaborate constantly with graphic designers and web developers. We share their work with our audience and they share ours with theirs. It’s a win-win.

For instance, if you have a babywearing product, can you collaborate with a baby sleep coach? If you have a jewelry studio, do you know a personal stylist you can collaborate with?

Hey, you can collaborate even with someone in the exact same niche but with a different audience targeting.

What Should You Ask of Your Fellow Collaborator

Sending a simple email asking whether they’re like to partner with you and that you’d like to share their products/services with your audience and if they’d like to do the same.

Give them some background about your business and how you’d be sharing their offerings- via email, on social, in a blog post, etc.

Ask them if they’d like to do the same and share yours as well since the audiences clearly overlap.

You can also ask to share each other’s opt-in freebie with your audience instead of a product or service if both of you want to build your respective email lists.

Always remember to commit to what you can deliver. It’s better to under promise and over deliver. So, don’t say you’ll mention them in an email and a blog post and then not do one of the two.
