They say you should never mix business with friendships.

I don’t know about ‘them’ or in fact, who “they” are;)  but I disagree.

The thing is that over the last 5 years, some of the people that we’ve deeply enjoyed doing business with have all started off as our friends.

We’ve shared stories about our kids, swapped recipes, Skyped for random things and yes, worked together as well.

It’s been professional and personal, and it’s the best thing ever!

I’ve hired friends to work on my projects.

I’ve bought from friends.

And it’s been true the other way round too!

But Prerna, friends don’t like being sold to?

I agree.

That’s why, I’ve never sold to friends. Ever. OR have been sold to, for that matter.

They’ve bought from us.

See the difference?

You talk about your business just the way you would talk to anyone else.

You mention what you do.

You ask for support in spreading the word.

You give advice if it’s in your area of expertise.

You let people know what you’re working on.

You share your creations.

Bottom line: People buy from people.

People buy from people they know, like and trust.

And guess what, we know, like {or even LOVE!} and trust our friends.

Your Get More Customers strategy for today is to tell your friends about your business.

Do they know what you do?  I can’t tell you how many coaching clients tell me that they don’t bring up their business with their friends or family. I mean, really?

Have they seen your latest creations?

Can you talk to them about what you’re struggling with?

Now, one thing to remember is to choose your friends wisely. You want to be surrounded by people who get you, are honest but positive around you and are cheerleaders, not Debbie Downers.

Go ahead and choose one new friend you can talk business with today.
